Spread the love

When I started reading more in 2019, I wanted to challenge myself as a reader. I read 42 books in 2019, but I wanted to read more in 2020. I decided to participate in the 2020 PopSugar Reading Challenge and read 50 books in 2020. In March when the pandemic started, it became apparent that I would easily reach 50 books before the end of 2020, but I didn’t want to stop reading. I ended up participating in the 2020 PopSugar Summer Reading Challenge to read more books based on prompts I might not otherwise read. Here are the books I read to participate in the 2020 PopSugar Summer Reading Challenge and what prompts they went with:

  1. A book with “summer” in the title: That Summer (Sara Dessen)
  2. A book with a summer drink or cocktail on the cover: The Never Have I Ever Club (Mary Jayne Baker)
  3. A book that takes place in your favorite (or dream) summer destination: The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires (Grady Hendrix)
  4. A book about a vacation: I Love You So Mochi (Sarah Kuhn)
  5. A book with an LGBTQ+ protagonist: Over the Top (Johnathan Van Ness)
  6. A book with an item you’d find at the beach in the title: The Kite Runner [Graphic Novel] (Khaled Hosseini, Fabio Celoni, Mirka Andolfo, Tommaso Valsecchi)
  7. A book with a body of water or pool on the cover: The Scent Keeper (Erica Bauermeister)
  8. A book set at a resort or hotel: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet (Jamie Ford)
  9. A book with a release date in June, July, or August of any year: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (J.K. Rowling)
  10. A summer-set thriller: Something in the Water (Catherine Steadman)
  11. A book involving a summer romance: Love & Gelato (Jenna Evans Welch)
  12. A book about Black history in America: Me & White Supremacy (Layla F. Saad)
  13. A scary book you’d read around a campfire: ‘Salem’s Lot (Stephen King)
  14. A book that takes place during the summer before high school or college: Along for the Ride (Sara Dessen)
  15. A book that takes place in a beach town: Haunts of Mackinac (Todd Clements)
  16. A book with “sun,” “sand,” or “waves” in the title: New Waves (Kevin Nguyen)
  17. A book with sunglasses on the cover: Dear Haiti, Love Alaine (Maika Moulite)
  18. A book about camping or summer camp: Station Eleven (Emily St. John Mandel)
  19. A book classified as a “beach read”: Murder on the Orient Express (Agatha Christie)
  20. A book that makes you nostalgic for summer (rereads welcome): Bridge to Terabithia (Katherine Paterson)

I love this! I’ve wanted to read more lately, but I just don’t have the attention span or discipline for it. But having a reading list like this might help!
