Like many of you reading this, I’m currently working from home. Not out of luxury, unfortunately. But I wasn’t going to complain about working in pajamas if it meant I was helping with social distancing. During this unexpected time at home, I want to learn. That’s when I decided to start my blog (the very one you’re reading). I knew a little bit about blogging from my experience in college and writing some blog posts for my 9-5 job, but I didn’t know how to monetize a blog. That’s where Jen Ruiz’s book, “25 Ways To Work From Home” came in to help.

Ruiz does a wonderful job breaking down different WFH (work from home) strategies that not only provide unexpected insight, but she also helps the reader by including resources for how to get started. Some of these options are less frequent options (selling clothes, selling photographs) or strategies that require continued work [blogging, freelancing]. I learned valuable information about how to monetize a blog that I would not have thought of while reading her book. Once my blog is a little older and has more visitors, I plan to use her book for reference when I start the process of monetizing it.

Ruiz does not pussyfoot around the cons of these small business models. She is not afraid to be blunt and say that certain strategies can be difficult to earn a decent-sized paycheck, make money fast, or get paid in a reasonable amount of time. This is not meant to scare the readers, just remind them of what expectation vs. reality is when it comes to working from home. Ruiz knows how to write information in an easy-to-digest format while keeping the reading engaged.

While this is not your only source while learning about working from home, is it an effective quick read to get your creative juices flowing.

Books I’m Re-Reading in 2021

When I started reading again for fun, I didn't think about including books I read before would be as fulfilling. Boy was I wrong. Adding books that I've read before helped me complete numerous reading challenges in 2020. I ended up re-reading seven books in 2020, and...
