The 52 Book Club: Mini May Reading Challenge

Spread the love

I loved participating in numerous reading challenges last year. I’m currently participating in eight reading challenges for 2021. One of these challenges is the 2021 Reading Challenge from The 52 Book Club. The 52 Book Club also hosted a mini reading challenge for the month of May. What’s one more reading challenge right?

Prompts

Here are the books I read for The 52 Book Club’s Mini May Reading Challenge:

Published in Spring [any year]: Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • I chose this book because it’s been on my TBR [to-be-read] pile for a long time. It was published in the month of March, which is considered spring.

An author or character with a floral name: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

  • I chose this book because I am re-reading The Hunger Games trilogy for 2021. There are several characters with floral names, including: Katniss (main character), Primrose (sister of main character), Buttercup (cat who belongs to Prim), Posy (sister of family friend/somewhat love interest of Katniss: Gale)

Sunshine on the cover: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

  • The “sunshine” on the cover of “We Were Liars” might be a bit of a stretch since it’s covered in fog, but I’m planning to count it regardless. It didn’t say the sun couldn’t be obstructed.

The book prompts were based around spring, one of my favorite seasons. Each of these books I was planning to read for 2021, so it worked well that they fit in the Mini May Reading Challenge. In addition, these books fit several prompts for my other reading challenges.

Book Review: The House in the Cerulean Sea

Growing up, I loved the moving "Cool Runnings," loosely based on the Jamaican bobsled team during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Now when I watch the movie, I can't help reflecting on a line that one of the bobsledders said: "People are always afraid of what's different."...
