Before COVID-19, I loved my introverted tendencies to stay home and do nothing. However, wanting to stay home and being told to stay home are two separate things. As of late March, I have been furloughed from my full-time job. Being cooped up for this long, on top of the uncertainty of the world after shelter-in-place has been lifted, has taken a toll on my anxiety. However, I’m not going to let it get the better of me. Here are some things I’ve been doing during quarantine to help keep me sane.
It can be easy to forget to move around when you’re stuck at home. I’ve been trying to walk outside or do yoga for some sort of physical activity. Walking is nice because I can be outside and still socially distant. I did purchase a bicycle so my boyfriend and I can explore the bike trails in Oshkosh together, but I was recently in a bike accident and fractured my right elbow, so now I’m keeping physical activity to a minimum while my elbow heals.
Learn New Skills
Did you know this blog was a result of COVID-19? I wanted to get back into blogging, and COVID1-9 gave me the time to dive back into the world of blogging. I’ve also been learning about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), which is something I can use once I’m working full-time again.
In addition, I’ve been doing more cooking at home. My boyfriend and I still get takeout once a week to support local restaurants, but being able to better plan our meals [and actually have time to make them] has been beneficial, both for our health and our wallets.
My goal for 2020, originally, was to read 50 books. Because of being quarantined, I decided to update my challenge to read 75 books for 2020. I was able to get some books from my local library before they closed for quarantine, and I also found other good resources to get books. I use a mix of physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks for reading.
I’ve been using my free time to do some DIY projects that I’ve been putting off. I made a couple of DIY Tied Fleece Blankets for my friends who are expecting babies. My boyfriend and I are also installing a new floor and painting our bedroom.
Catch Up On TV Shows
This has been a good opportunity for my boyfriend and me to binge our favorite TV shows. Usually, we alternate between binging a show that one of us has seen and the other has not watched before, so we can experience something new. Since quarantine started, we’ve watched the following shows (and where to watch them):

Normally, my boyfriend and I hire a cleaner to help clean our house. With COVID-19, we’ve had to resort to cleaning the house ourselves. I’ve been able to sort through some items to donate or toss as well, but not having anywhere to donate them to or drop off has been frustrating. It was a good reminder of how to do everything again ourselves, but I can’t wait to have our cleaning service come back when it’s safe.
Even though I’m not wearing makeup on a daily basis, I’m still breaking out due to stress. I’ve been doing a lot of sheet masks and clay masks to help combat my acne and take care of myself. Being cooped up inside hasn’t helped my anxiety, but utilizing self-care has helped out tremendously.
